As you know, October is "The Bullying prevention Awareness Month" and there´s also a special day in the year called A Safer Internet Day devoted to remind us of the need to make a good use of New Technologies,especially among young people. You´re more than welcome!

 The English Department has developed a plan to foster the habit of reading among students in ESO and Bachillerato because it is a very valuable tool to enhance the student´s vocabulary and grammar in the Foreign Language. Also because we want everyone to experience the pleasure of reading for its own sake.

For that purpose you can borrow graduated readings available a the Department, you can also look for audiobooks in Youtube or just download the pdf books in English in Google.

If you´re interested, ask your teacher... you can also borrow a book from a friend or choose your own material.

After you´ve read the book, you can post a comment here telling us the following:

 Orígenes Día Internacional contra la Violencia de Género

La violencia de género ha sido y sigue siendo un delito invisible, un acto de cobardía oculto en demasiadas ocasiones por una aparente felicidad conyugal. De puertas para afuera impera la felicidad, pero de puertas hacia dentro, todo es una horrible pesadilla. Aunque son cada vez más las mujeres que se atreven a poner nombre y apellidos a la violencia doméstica. Es por eso que el próximo 25 de noviembre se celebra el Día Internacional contra la Violencia de Género. Pero, ¿sabes cuáles son los orígenes de esta celebración?

El nombramiento se produjo en 1981, dentro del marco del 1 Encuentro Feminista de Latinoamérica y del Caribe, celebrado en Bogotá. La fecha del 25 de noviembre fue elegida como conmemoración del asesinato en 1961 de las tres hermanas Mirabal, activistas políticas de la República Dominicana, por la policía secreta del gobernante dominicano Rafael Trujillo. Sus cadáveres destrozados aparecieron en el fondo de un precipio. Para el movimiento popular y feminista de República Dominicana históricamente estas mujeres han simbolizado la lucha y la resistencia. En ese encuentro, por primera vez en la historia las mujeres levantaron la voz para denunciar el maltrato hacia el sexo femenino, denunciando la violencia de género a nivel doméstico, el acoso sexual, la tortura y los abusos sufridos por prisioneras políticas.
